Wild Russia

When most people hear the word Russia, an image of Moscow usually comes to mind. However, they don't realize that there is more to this country than just its capital. In fact, around 77 percent of Russia's total area is made up by Siberia. This area not only covers 13.1 million square1 kilometers but is also home to some of the world's most unique animals. Join National Geographic Channel this month as it explores "Wild Russia."

In "Wild Russia: Siberia," viewers get to see several normal looking animals with some rather strange qualities. The first is the musk2 deer. It has the face of a kangaroo3 and teeth like a vampire's4. Those are not what make musk deer interesting, though. Instead, it is the back end of the male deer that is desired. The males have a special gland5 that produces a smell that attracts female deers as well as perfume6 makers. The second animal with a strange quality is the Siberian salamander7. It looks like an ordinary lizard8, but it has a hidden talent. It can come back to life after being frozen for years. Now these are animals that are worth seeing!
