Giving Praise and Compliments

First, be sincere. It’s better just to smile than to say something you don’t mean. Next, don't overdo it. One simple statement says far more than going on and on. Also, be specific. Rather than saying “You’re wonderful!” try “You have a wonderful way with children. They really listen to you.”

Receiving praise and compliments sometimes makes people feel uncomfortable. Often they don’t know how to respond. It is perfectly OK just to say, “Thank you.” You may want to try changing the focus away from yourself to the thing being praised. The next step is to return the compliment by mentioning something positive about the other person.
