在海外生活過的人,ㄧ定遇過的問題,租房子的時候要跟房東如何溝通,這時侯英文要怎麼講?
這是我在課堂上[成人學員,age range 19-75]安排過的ㄧ個教學活動.
首先,找ㄧ些相關會話資料,讓學員參考模仿.同時學習討論其中的單字.[約用了15分鐘]
Lesson 28： Renting an Apartment 租公寓
situation：Jim, a real estate agent, is showing Mary and her husband, John, an apartment.
場景：房地產經濟人吉姆正向瑪莉和她丈夫約翰介紹一棟公寓。
Mary：Can we see the kitchen?
瑪麗：我們可以看一下廚房嗎？

Jim：Sure. This way, please.
吉姆：當然。這邊請。
Mary：Oh, the kitchen is so spacious.
瑪麗：哦，廚房好寬敞。
Jim：Yes. I knew you'd love it.
吉姆：是的。我就知道妳會喜歡。
John：Is this refrigerator new?
約翰：這台冰箱是新的嗎？
Jim：Yes, it's brand-new.
吉姆：是的，它是全新的。
John：Hmm... another question: Are dogs allowed in this building?
約翰：嗯…還有一個問題︰這棟大樓裏可以養狗嗎？
Jim：Dogs? I think dogs are allowed.
吉姆：狗？我想是可以的。
Mary：When can we move in?
瑪麗：我們什麼時候可以搬進來？
Jim：Anytime.
吉姆：隨時。
John：If it's all right with you, we want to move in tomorrow.
約翰：如果你覺得可以的話，我們想明天就搬進來。
Jim：No problem.
吉姆：沒問題。
Jim：I need two months rent in advance, plus an eight-hundred-dollar security deposit that you'll get back when you move out.
吉姆：我想請你們預付兩個月的租金，外加八百元的損毀押金，你們搬走時就會退還給你們。

然後以租屋黃頁(yelloew page)上的招租廣告為素材,給學員们看廣告內容,跟同學们討論,租屋時該問的ㄧ些問題[英文句子/單字都在這時彙整],將問題列表[打在word裡, 投影在布幕上給同學们參考].請同學研究一下招租廣告內容小地方[例如房租包含水電嗎?/管理費?].思考要如何問問題[包括該如何回應其問題]< 時間交由學員小組討論

7. How old is the house? about five-year old
8. When can we move in? ASAP=as soon as possible/Next month
9. Do we need a contract? For how long? Yes, one year.
10. Utility?
11. Does the rent include utilities?
12. Bargain
13. Is the location closed to any transportation?
14. be seated in the East , face to the West
15. Is the house seated in the East , face to the West?
[我引導學員進行至整個講"英文租房子活動"的此刻,接下來由學員接管,大部分的學員開始進行翻譯活動,紛紛問我:老師:座西朝東的英文怎麼講?...等等]
我給他們的目標是:達成租屋交易[過程要議價]
這時,學員因為要使用英文了,開始動腦,要問什麼?要如何回答?整個教室,學習氣氛濃厚,討論交流[翻查字典/提問/回應]熱烈
因為時間的關係,目標並沒有在下課前達成.有的學員需要更多的時間進行整理的工作.有的學員需要更多的引導,才能進入會話模式.
不論如何,我都看到互動進行熱烈,學員真的在學英文,因為要達成目標在使用英文.查單字/寫英文句子/翻字典.
