ally and Carolyn work at a
mail-order company called Millie’s
House of Gifts. Once a week they
work together to send out a mass
mailing of catalogs and advertisements.

Jenny: Doing the mailing always
takes all day, too. We don’t
have to worry about getting
back to our desks to do any
office work.

Millie: While I’m here, let me check
and make sure everything is
bundled correctly.
Carolyn: I’m sure it is. This is really an
easy job.
Millie: The bulk mail manager at the
post office complained that
some of the bundles were
done wrong last week. I had
to send someone over to redo
them. As a result, they were
delayed two days in going
out.
Jenny: Really? Why didn’t you send
one of us over?
Millie: It was Friday morning. All of
you were busy taking phone
orders. It was easier to send
someone else.
蜜莉：趁我在這裡，就檢查一下，確

卡洛琳：我確定都綁好了。這件事很容

Carolyn: I guess we weren’t paying
attention. The mass mailing
day is our only chance to visit
with each other.
Millie: You can visit at coffee breaks,
at lunch or after work. Yo u
need to concentrate on the
job, or I’ll have to hire
someone who will.
Jenny: We’ll double-check all the
catalogs and make sure they
are in the right order.
Sally: If we have to stay late to finish
the job, we will— on our own
time.
卡洛琳：我想我們不是很專心，做大宗
郵件的日子是我們唯一可以閒
聊的機會。
蜜莉：妳們可以在休息、午餐或是下

Millie: How are you doing with the
mailing today?
Carolyn: Good. We’ve almost finished—
and we did it in half
the time.
Jenny: I think you’ll find all the
bundles done correctly this
week.
Millie: I’m glad. I appreciate your
trying harder.
Sally: We talked it over last week
after you left. We realized we
had a bad attitude. W e ’ r e
here to work, not visit. We
were wasting a lot of time.
From now on you’ll find our
mailing days much more
productive!
蜜莉：今天的郵寄工作進行的如何？
卡洛琳：很好。我們幾乎要做完了，而
且只花了一半的時間。
珍妮：我相信這禮拜所有的郵件都是
按照規定綁的。
蜜莉：我很高興，謝謝妳們加倍的努
