"hook(v.)或"擊出右曲球"slice(v.).
A: I decided cut my losses and not appeal the lawsuit.
B: I think that's a smart decision.
*......is the key (某事)是關鍵
A: What advice do you have for budding golf pro?
B: Consistency is the key. You can't become a champ if you only pratice on the
days you feel good.
*par of the course
Playing from the Rough
( Peter and Wally are in the rough on the 17th hole )
Wally: How did we both end up in the rough, Peter?
Peter: Well, I hooked my shot and you sliced yours.
Wally: Are you going to play it?
Peter: You know, I think I'm going to take a penalty stroke and move on.
Wally: Really? Just giv up a stroke? I'm going to try and get myself out of trouble. (
Hits the ball, which goes further into the rough )
Peter: You see, Wally? Sometimes you just have to learn to cut your losses. With the
lie you have now, you'll be lucky to break 10 on this hole!
Wally: Of course, you're right again. I should have learned my lesson with the klammer
deal last fall. They were six months late on their payments, and I went ahead
and shipped the fall inventory, thinking that things would work out.
Peter: And they filed for bankruptcy three months later, right?
Wally: Exactly. We'll never see that money again.
Peter: Sometimes caution is the better part of wisdom.
Wally: [ looking at his scorecard ] Geez.... I was ten shots off my average from last
year!
Peter: that's pretty much par for the course. You can't expect to be on top of your
game your first time out.
Wally: I suppose you're right. But the layoff didn't seem to affect you. You were nine
shots ahead of me!
Peter: I didn't have any birdies, but I also didn't have very many bogies. Consistency is
the key, whether it's golf or business.
Wally: Hmm... I guess you're talking about our Feburary sales figures, aren't you?
Peter: I wasn't, but I could have been. Your team's performance was above average for
January and March, but one sub - par month dragged your average for the whole
first quarter down.
Wally: I suppose you're right. But there's one area that I'm pretty sure my performance
hasn't slipped.... on the 19th hole!
Peter: Ha - ha. All right, let's go have a drink and celebrate a great round of golf and a
great start to 2007!
