Pressure Cook

No money? No ticket home? No problem for Ralph Pagano.
Over the last few years, cooking shows have become very popular. Big names like Martha Stewart, Jamie Oliver, Rachel Ray, Gordon Ramsay, and Anthony Bourdain have hosted shows with high ratings and become household names. However, have you ever heard of celebrity chef Ralph Pagano? If not, you will soon get to know him because on National Geographic Channel's (NGC) Pressure Cook this month, Pagano mixes the concept of Bourdain's No Reservations with the action and adventure of The Amazing Race and the stunt eating of Fear Factor.
Pressure Cook is a combination of skill, survival, and curiosity as Pagano is dropped off in far-flung locations with no funds and limited resources. His mission is to discover culinary secrets and reach pre-determined destinations within 72 hours. If he fails to do so, Pagano's penalty is eating stomach-churning local delicacies like bull's testicles, barking rats, or gourmet worm tacos.
Brazil is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and Pagano travels around hunting piranhas and chopping down banana plants in an effort to avoid eating maggots as punishment. In Italy, Pagano runs into difficulties with a very expensive plane ticket and getting his points across to locals because very few speak English. He realizes that he's got to think fast, or he'll be forced to eat a big plate of lamb brains in butter. In Iceland, Pagano swings over cliffs to collect eggs and even ends up cooking in a very hot spot—the middle of a volcano. This month, add Ralph Pagano and NGC's Pressure Cook to your list of not-to-be-missed cooking shows.
